Children's House

(ages 2.9yrs to 6yrs)

Pincushion provides an integrated and individualized educational experience, enabling and nurturing development of your child's potential. Our Children's House focuses on inspiring each child's curiosity and establishing learning skills. Through interaction, play and guidance from teachers, supported by unique Montessori materials, students teach themselves the foundations of learning that will help them succeed throughout their academic careers. One of the most striking aspects of the Children's House is the peacefulness

Practical Life Activity

Pincushion's Practical Life training uses child-size tools to teach many everyday practices that help enhance motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Building greater independence and concentration, children learn to tie shoes; sweep, pour, polish and take responsibility for cleaning up after themselves; and gain social skills like greet, apologize to, and thank others

Sensorial Learning

Sensorial techniques central to Montessori learning methods, help preschool students develop their sense of order and gain a clearer understanding of the world around them through sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell. Tools such as rods of varying length, geometric shapes, color tablets, and sound boxes appeal to a child’s natural curiosity for exploration.

Language Arts

Preschoolers at Pincushion begin to develop vital language skills by learning the sounds of the alphabet and how they are combined to form words, sentences, and stories. They also begin basic grammar and vocabulary lessons and reading and writing exercises. We use kinesthetic tools such as sandpaper letters, metal insets and a moveable alphabet to introduce a phonetic approach to reading. Our children begin to read on their own before Kindergarten

Mathematics

Manipulative materials rods, spindles, beads, cards, cubes, and counters are introduced at the preschool level. Students explore and experiment with these tools to establish a concrete understanding of basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Children are also introduced to the concepts underlying fractions, Geometry and Algebra.

Science and Culture

The Science and Culture subjects are combined at these early ages to help students understand the world around them. Children are introduced to Geography through the use of manipulative materials, including sandpaper globes, puzzle maps, land and water forms etc. Science studies introduce the concept of experimentation and connect students to the earth through physical sciences and to life through the extensive study of plants and animals.
